As you know, the economic downturn has left Pennsylvania with a record deficit which must be filled to balance our budget. Governor Corbett has proposed slashing higher education by 50%, reducing basic education funding by $1.1 billion and lowering the funding to community colleges by 10%. At the same time, the governor's proposal will likely result in significant property tax increases and require many important community programs to be cut.

That is why I will be hosting a number of Town Hall Meetings throughout the 43rd District. It will give me an opportunity to hear your views, as well as the views of other community leaders in the area, regarding these proposed cuts, our state budget priorities for the coming fiscal year and other state issues.

The first Town Hall Meeting will be this Saturday, May 7th at the William E. Anderson Library of Penn Hills (Community Rooms A & B), 1037 Stotler Road, Pittsburgh from 10 am - 11:30 am.

I hope you will join me, either this Saturday or at one of our upcoming Town Hall Meetings, for what I hope will be a lively and informative discussion on the challenges that we face.

Our second meeting is scheduled for Saturday, May 14 at the West Mifflin Borough Council Building in Council Chambers, 3000 Lebanon Church Road, West Mifflin, PA 15122 from 10:00 am - 11:30 am

...and be sure to stay tuned for future dates!
