HOMESTEAD GRAYS BRIDGE REHABILITATION PROJECT DRAWS TO A CLOSE
HOMESTEAD, October 18, 2007 - - State Sen. Jay Costa
(D-Allegheny) participated in a ribbon cutting ceremony to mark the
completion of the two-year rehabilitation of the Homestead Grays
Bridge.
The $36.2-million project, completed without closing the 70-year-old
bridge completely to traffic, involved:

Strengthening the superstructure of the bridge by repairing
deteriorated steel |

Replacing the the East ramp onto the bridge |
| -- |
Constructing a new retaining wall adjacent to the East ramp |
| -- |
Replacing the traffic barrier on the bridge |
| -- |
Replacing the majority of the bridge's bearings |
| -- |
Abrasively blasting off the old paint and repainting the
bridge with a three-coat paint system |
| -- |
Repaving the bridge deck and adjacent roadway |
| -- |
Replacing sidewalks on both sides of the bridge |
