Sen. Costa joined Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback (and Homestead native) Charlie Batch, Allegheny County Chief Executive Dan Onorato and other area officials at a ground-breaking ceremony to announce the renovation project for the historic Homestead Bakery on 7th Avenue in Homestead.

The $4.7 million project will transform the vacant building into one that includes 16 loft-style apartments and up to six commercial spaces.

The project is funded by $1.8 million in private loans, $500,000 from the Commonwealth's Redevelopment Assistance Capital program, $480,000 from the Pennsylvania Housing Finance Agency's Mixed-Use Facility Loan program, $250,000 from a Pennsylvania Legislative Initiative Grant, and $100,000 through the Redevelopment Authority of Allegheny County.
